The Union’s Secretary General, Mohamed Ibrahim Moalimuu and President
of NUSOJ, accompanied by civil society members, media bosses and
journalists, visited the houses of murdered journalists and handed over
1500 $ to each family on behalf of NUSOJ.

Three journalists who also sustained minor injuries were paid a total of 1.159 nine $ in order to cover their medical costs.
This emergency fund for Somali journalists in need was granted by Free Press Unlimited in response to the deadly attack of October 14th, 2017.

Finally, the National Union of Somali Journalists appealed to the Somali
media fraternity, the concerned press freedom organizations and other
government entities to urgently help the family of the journalist
killed Arbiska Afgoye on 25 October Jacfar Ali Mohamed (Daacad) after
exchange fire between African Union Peacekeepers and Alshabaab
militant group.
